Cortex Memory ("the Extension") is a browser extension that provides long-term memory capabilities for AI chat conversations. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.

Data Collection

What We Collect

• Account Information: Email address (for authentication), encrypted password hash
• Conversation Data (only when you explicitly enable memory):
  • User prompts you choose to save
  • AI assistant responses you choose to save
  • Timestamps of saved conversations
• Technical Data: Chat identifiers, session tokens

What We Do NOT Collect

• We do NOT collect browsing history
• We do NOT collect data from chats where memory is disabled
• We do NOT sell or share your data with third parties
• We do NOT use your data for advertising

User Control

• Explicit Opt-In: Memory is disabled by default. You must explicitly toggle "Remember this chat" to save any data.
• Per-Chat Control: You control which conversations are saved.
• Data Deletion: You can delete your saved memories at any time through the dashboard.
• Account Deletion: You can request complete account deletion by contacting us.

Data Storage & Security

• All data is stored on secure servers with encryption at rest
• Passwords are hashed using industry-standard bcrypt
• All API communications use authenticated endpoints
• JWT tokens expire after 24 hours

Data Processing

Your conversation data is processed to:

1. Generate semantic embeddings for intelligent retrieval
2. Summarize long responses for efficient storage
3. Provide relevant context when you request it

All processing happens on our servers. We do not send your data to any third-party AI services.

Third-Party Services

The Extension interacts with ChatGPT (OpenAI): The Extension reads conversation content from ChatGPT's interface only when memory is enabled. We do not send data to OpenAI beyond what you already send in your normal ChatGPT usage.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your data
• Export your data
• Withdraw consent
